Parents said their 8-year-old attempted to commit suicide but his injuries told another story

At approximately 2:00 am on Saturday, March 20 emergency responders were dispatched to an apartment where 27-year-old Leon Gritz stated that his 8-year-old son Isaiah Gritz had attempted suicide.

Isaiah was found unresponsive and immediately transported to the University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An official determination of his cause and manner of death has not yet been released by the coroner.

An investigation led by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Section soon determined that Isaiah showed "substantial injuries believed to be the result of physical abuse and neglect by his parents."

Both his father Leon, and his mother, 28-year-old Christie Gritz were arrested and charged with first degree murder. They remain in custody at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
