Fresno, California: Today officers with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 55-year-old Michael Martin who was, according to their press release, found to be in possession of an "astonishing amount of child pornography."
Martin was arrested this morning when officers with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force followed up on a tip concerning possession of child pornography and executed a search warrant at his residence.
"They arrested him after executing a search warrant and finding more than a thousand DVDs containing videos of children being raped. Additionally, detectives seized electronic devices and books containing explicit photos and videos."
The Fresno Bee reports that one of the DVDs found was labeled "Sex Slaves of Sodom."
"Detectives consider this to be one of the largest collection of child pornography they have ever come across in an investigation."
At this time, officers do not believe that Martin has had direct physical contact with children, but they are asking that anyone with additional information contact Lt. Brandon Pursell at (559) 600-8029. Tips may additionally be submitted through Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 or through the websites www.valleycrimestoppers.org or www.missingkids.com/home.
Martin was booked into the Fresno County Jail but has since been released on $40,000 bail. Information on his next court date is not available at this time.
