Lancaster, Pennsylvania: 23-year-old Francheska Torres entered a guilty plea in court on Tuesday, October 26 to charges of third-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the death of her two-month-old son in July 2020.
The initial charges filed against Torres were criminal homicide and endangering the welfare of children.
Judge Thomas Sponaugle sentenced her to between eight and 16 years in prison on Friday, October 29.
The child died on July 18, 2020, five days after officers were called to Torres' apartment at about 3:30 am and found him in cardiac arrest.
According to a forensic pathologist and treating doctors, the child was "immediately incapacitated" by one of the injuries he sustained in the assault. It was determined that he died from traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.
Torres was arrested and charged with his death on August 14, 2020 and she has been in custody at the Lancaster County Prison since.
