Bedford Heights, Ohio: Officers were called to a residence on Saturday, February 12 to preform a welfare check on a 5-year-old girl.
Inside the home, officers found the body of 5-year-old E'nijah Noell Holland.
"It's still early in the investigation," Detective Ericka Payne stated, "so we are not sure what motivated any of this, but just speaking to the mother, it's out understanding that she stabbed her. We're not sure why. We just know it was multiple times and it was a kitchen knife."
29-year-old Menokka Karr Nealy was arrested at the scene and has been charged with aggravated murder among other offenses.
Out of concern for E'nijah's wellbeing, the father, Gregory Holland, was working through family courts to gain custody of the girl. According to WJW the hearings in family court had suffered a number of delays including due to COVID restrictions and even the recent winter storm.
It is not clear when Nealy is due to appear in court.
