Columbia County, Florida: The Columbia County Sheriff's Department has issued a pair of press releases concerning human remains that were initially discovered in the afternoon of Monday, September 19 by someone walking in a wooded area along County Line Road near the Baker County line.
According to the initial report, officers were called shortly after 4:00 on a report of suspected human remains. They arrived and confirmed that the remains were indeed human and secured the area.
On Tuesday, they continued to investigate the area and were awaiting assistance from a K9 unit out of Ocala the following day.
Sheriff Mark Hunter issued a statement saying, "These types of cases are uncommon in our area. There are a lot of questions we don't have the answers to yet, but I am confident in our team's ability to exhaust every lead and bring closure to this case."
