21-year-old David Tyus was convicted in March to a number of charges against him related to sexual assault and rape. He was sentenced yesterday in an Allegheny County Common Pleas court to 44-88 years in prison.
Tyus and his mother, Victoria Tyus were arrested and charged in May 2018 after a young victim came forward and told her mother that Tyus had been "doing bad stuff" at the Friendships Play House daycare.
During the course of the trial, it was revealed that Tyus had reportedly admitted to detectives that while left alone with the children he would kiss the girls on the lips, necks, and foreheads, and additionally tickle them while they sat on his lap.
Tyus additionally admitted to having sexual contact with a woman while the children were present, and on another occasion when the children were not present, to bringing a 17-year-old girl he had met at the library home and raping her.
Victoria pleaded guilty earlier this year to a charge of endangering the welfare of children for leaving the children in her care alone with her son despite his lack of certifications. She was sentenced to probation.
