At about 1 pm on Monday, August 31 a man called 911 to state that he had "just murdered" his mother and asked "can you come pick us up?"
According to the police report, 29-year-old Kevin Thomas Landry fatally stabbed his mother inside of her home in Windsor Locks.
When officers arrived, they located Landry on the front steps of the home and asked what had happened. The report states he replied, "I killed [her]".
The officer further inquired as to why he had done that, and Landry is said to have stated that he had been raped. When asked if he had been sexually assaulted as a child or as an adult he replied, "both."
Inside the home they located 60-year-old Barbara M. Landry in an upstairs bedroom where Landry had told them she would be. She was found to have a laceration near her jaw and multiple stab wounds in her back. According to the Hartford Courant, a knife with a missing tip and broken blade was located near her head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
When officers spoke with Landry's father, they were told that he had returned from attending college in California to live with them in 2018. He reported that Landry smoked marijuana and at times, did so with Barbara, and that he would become angry and act out if he did not get the drug. He further stated that Landry was dependent upon them for rides to purchase marijuana.
Landy was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with murder. He is being held in lieu of $1.5 million bond.
At his arraignment before Judge Ann E. Lynch on Tuesday, Landry was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation and the case was continued until September 15.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Sgt. Lampson at (860) 627-1461.
