Lubbock, Texas: The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas released information yesterday concerning the arrest of 24-year-old Tyler Patrick Brown on a charge of possession of child pornography.
Local media is reporting that the Federal Bureau of Investigations is hoping to speak with Brown's victims and that the investigation remains ongoing. The phone number for the Lubbock field office is (806) 765-8571.
According to the information released, a FBI Task Force and the Texas Department of Public Safety interviewed Brown on May 25, 2022 following a report that he had been engaged in inappropriate contact and possibly sexual relationships with high school students.
During that interview Brown is said to have admitted to engaging in sexual relationships with 14 minors after he had turned 18. Brown allegedly also told investigators that he would tell the girls that he too was a high school student in order to gain their trust, and promised investigators that he "would no longer groom, entice, and sexually assault minors."
During the course of the interview, Brown is reported to have provided the names of the 14 individuals.
A forensic investigation of his cell phone revealed a sexually explicit video of a minor, later identified to be another minor not previously identified by Brown. Through the course of investigation, it was determined that the girl in the video was 15-years-old at the time the video was created in July 2019.
On June 6, 2022 investigators contacted and spoke with her. She told investigators that she had met Brown through Snapchat and that he had identified himself as a 16-year-old student in Abilene. She further told them that he would send her sexual videos as well as money through Venmo and Cash App, offering to pay her if she would agree to meet with him. The girl denied the offer and eventually blocked him.
On June 24, 2022, a parent of one of Brown's reported victims spotted him at a high school girl's basketball game wearing a press lanyard and carrying blank score sheets. The parent contacted law enforcement.
An officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety contacted Brown at the game and spoke with him. The officer suggested that he leave and Brown obliged according to court documents.
Brown was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on June 28, 2022. According to jail records the FBI released their hold on him the following day and he remains in the custody of the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. His court date is not listed.
