Officers were called to a church cemetery on Huckleberry Springs Road at 2:30 Monday to a report of a suspected homeless man causing extensive damage.
When officers arrived, they made contact with 34-year-old Danny Frazier in the midst of broken headstones and holes that had been dug into the ground.
Frazier is said to have told officers that he was attempting to "resurrect" his grandmother who had died in 2012 and was buried in the cemetery.
Officials have estimated the damages to be in the neighborhood of $30,000.
Frazier is being held at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility on charges of vandalism and criminal trespassing. His bond has been set at $20,000 and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 19 at 9 am.
