Last week, two days after she had entered Matamoros, the badly beaten body of Lizbeth Flores was discovered.
This week, investigators have determined that the motive of that killing appears to have been robbery and one of three suspects is now in police custody and charged with murder.
That man, identified by Breitbart is 39-year-old Braulio Trevino Martinez was Flores' step-father, and he was arrested on Tuesday. He appeared before a judge the same day where he was officially charged with murder.
Trevino Martinez is additionally a registered sex offender in Texas. He served four years in prison between 2006 and 2010 for two counts of sexual assault of a child. The victim's age was reported as 15 years old.
According to investigators, Flores had received a call notifying her that her boyfriend, the father of her two children, had been kidnapped and she would need to pay a ransom. When she crossed into Matamoros on foot, it was with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The brutality of her death was deemed by investigators, to be an effort to make it look as though it was carried out by the local cartel.
Police are still seeking two other suspects.
