Watkinsville, Georgia: Shortly after midnight on Tuesday officers responded to a residence on Bouldercrest Circle after a juvenile called them to report gunshots within the home.
Officers responded to the home at around 12:22 am and found 54-year-old Benjamin Smith and 42-year-old Ashley Schutza both dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Two juveniles in the home, identified as a 16-year-old and a 4-year-old by the Atlanta Journal Constitution were found unharmed.
"There were two siblings that were still there at the residence that gave us the suspect's name and information," Oconee County Sheriff James Hale was quoted by WAGA as saying.
The suspect, 20-year-old Peyton Moyer had already fled the residence in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. An alert was broadcast to nearby law enforcement and he was located a short time later in Athens-Clarke County.
Officers there initiated a traffic stop, but he fled from them. Police deployed a spike strip and two blocks later he was taken into custody without further incident.
Moyer has been booked into the Oconee County jail on two counts of murder and one count of first-degree cruelty to children.
"We've had some encounters with him before," Hale said. "We've had several calls out to that residence and at a different residence in the county when they lived in another location."
According to jail records obtained by WAGA, Moyer was arrested in March and charged with criminal trespass for family violence or violating a family violence order.
The investigation remains ongoing.
