Madison, Wisconsin: A former social studies teacher with the D.C. Everest Area School District in Marathon County pleaded guilty to producing child pornography in U.S. District Court in Madison on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
39-year-old Travis C. Greil submitted a letter of resignation to the school board on February 19, 2020 after a student reported to the school liaison officer that she believed that he had filmed up her skirt while she was standing near his desk.
In the ensuing investigation investigators located 138 recordings on one of his devices which had evidently been recorded over the course of five years. Greil admitted to taking the videos.
Greil had been a licensed teacher in the state of Wisconsin since at least 2005. According to the Wausau Daily Herald he had escorted student groups on various field trips including a 12-day trip to China in 2016.
The charge of producing video files that depict minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct and is obscene carries with it a minimum sentence of 5 years up to a possible 20 years in prison. As a part of the plea agreement both parties agreed to a sentence of at least 6 years in prison when he is sentenced.
Sentencing will take place on August 12 and 13, 2021 before U.S. District Judge William M. Conley.
