St. Louis, Missouri: 30-year-old Brandon Holbrook was arrested on Friday, September 16 following an investigation into the possible sexual abuse of a 14-year-old student.
Holbrook was charged with three counts of statutory rape second degree and six counts of statutory sodomy second degree.
In announcing this arrest on September 19, the St. Louis County Police Department disclosed that Holbrook had worked as a substitute teacher at a number of schools in the area and detectives had not ruled out the possibility that there could be other victims.
They continue to encourage anyone that believes they may have been victimized by Holbrook to contact the St. Louis County Crimes Against Persons Detectives at (314) 615-5400.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, two additional potential victims have since made contact with police. Detectives are continuing to investigate.
On Monday, September 26, Holbrook was found unresponsive in his jail cell.
Holbrook had been observed in his cell on Monday at 3:15 pm and was fine. Approximately half an hour later he was observed sitting upright using headphones. When he didn't respond to a request to stand, a corrections officer entered the cell and found that he was unresponsive.
CPR was conducted and Narcan was administered. Approximately an hour later he was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
According to statements made at this time there were "no signs of drug use or indications of suicide."
Holbrook's cause of death has not yet been determined.
