40-year-old Mohamed Ardlee Iriandee Mohamed Sanip, who had been a regular with the Singapore Armed Forces admitted in court earlier this year to attempting to molest a 10-year-old school girl, just four months after he was accused of molesting an 8-year-old school girl.
According to The Straits Times Ardlee is to turn himself into the State Courts today in order to begin his sentence of 7.5 years and six strokes of the cane.
The attacks happened in January and May of 2018.
He was arrested on May 22, 2018, the day following the second molestation.
He faced a possible sentence of up to 10 years and caning.
While Ardlee was noted to not have a criminal record, Judge Ng stated that the punishment needed to be severe enough to "reflect the condemnation" such offenses carried, and to take into account that the attacks were premeditated.
After his arrest a search of his cell phone revealed that he had not only looked up hours of the primary schools, but also how to muffle someone's mouth.
“The Singapore Armed Forces holds its servicemen to high standards of discipline and integrity, and expects them to abide by the law. Those who commit offences will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the Ministry of Defense is quoted as saying when addressing the release of Ardlee from their service.
