Fontana, California: After receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children concerning possible distribution of child pornography, the Fontana Police Department launched an investigation which led to the arrest of 43-year-old Marc Goodwin on June 24, 2021.
Until the time of his arrest Goodwin had been a sergeant with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
"After assisting the Fontana PD with Marc Goodwin's arrest, he is no longer employed with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department," San Bernardino County Sheriff John McMahon stated on Facebook.
Goodwin was scheduled to be arraigned on 16 felony charges on June 29, the same day that he was released on bond.
The charges against him include one count of possession of child pornography, one count of possession of sadomasochistic child phonography and 14 counts of exhibiting/publishing material depicting child sexual content.
Investigators determined that dating back to at least August 29, 2012 Goodwin used the email address "loweredforlife@yahoo.com" to send images. Investigators are asking that anyone who received such images contact the Fontana Police Department.
"I fully support the Fontana Police Department and their investigation/arrest of one of our supervisors. I find it extremely disappointing when a member of our department acts in a manner that discredits the good work being done by our deputies," Sheriff McMahon said.
If convicted Goodwin faces a possible sentence of 15 years in prison.
