A jogger called the St Petersburg police at around 7 am on Tuesday morning to report that she had discovered what appeared to be a human head along her normal jogging route.

Police confirmed in a press release and Twitter post that they had recovered a human head near the intersection of 38th Avenue South and 31st Street South which is in the area of Lake Maggiore Park and Boyd Hill Nature Preserve.

Investigators responded to the area and conducted a search of a nearby wooded area.

The woman told investigators that she jogged the area daily, but had not done so for the last day or two.

According to Click Orlando, Police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez stated that the victims gender or race could not be immediately determined.  The head has been turned over to medical examiners for a forensic evaluation.
