Vintai, Russia: In April we reported on Vyacheslav Matrosov's conviction for inciting his former friend 32-year-old Oleg Sviridov to commit suicide.
Matrosov discovered video footage on Sviridov's phone showing him sexually assaulting Matrosov's then six-year-old daughter.
During a confrontation, Matrosov forced Sviridov to dig his own shallow grave where his body was later recovered. While it was determined that Matrosov was not responsible for stabbing Sviridov, it was not disclosed if the man had fallen on the blade during a struggle or had intentionally stabbed himself.
Following Sviridov's death, Matrosov took his cell phone to law enforcement for examination which revealed that his own daughter was not the only victim.
Matrosov had been sentenced to 18 months despite a campaign seeking to see all charges against him dismissed, calling him a hero for "saving our children."
After serving six months of the 18-month sentence, Matrosov has been released.
