In the early morning hours of December 29th, Deputies with the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a residence. It is unclear who in the residence dialed 911, but reports state that the dispatcher “heard only loud screaming in the background.”
Deputies walked into a "chaotic situation" in which one man, later identified as 60 year old Mark Stanley, had clear signs of injuries to his face and another man was quickly approaching him with a handgun.
Deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon which he did.
Deputies learned that the man had awoken early and decided to check on his two young children ages 2 and 3. He stated that when he opened their bedroom door, he found Stanley inside, nude from the waste down.
"When the family member questioned what he was doing in the room, Mr. Stanley pushed the family member out of the room, then locking the door. The family member forced entry into the room and began beating Mr. Stanley," the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office press release stated.
Stanley was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries before being booked into the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond. He is being held on two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of domestic assault.
More charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The children were also taken to the hospital to be evaluated for injuries.
No charges were filed against the father.
