Los Angeles Police have opened a homicide investigation as a matter of protocol after decapitated human remains were located by a hiker in Griffith Park Monday morning.
“We’re not in the belief that there was a crime. It may have been just an individual that was staying up in the park,” Los Angeles Police Department Lieutenant Ryan Rabbett stated.
Police are investigating two different locations within the park, one where the body was found, and the other where the head was located. They stated that recent rains are hampering their investigation.
Investigators are saying the death likely occurred within the last two or three days, and are speculating that a homeless man may have happened to be decapitated by an animal after death.
The victim has been identified as a male, either white or Hispanic in his 40s or 50s. His name though, has not been released.
