Colorado Man Arrested for Death of 9 Year Old Has Died in Jail

Last Monday, December 23rd, 34 year old Jeffrey Beagley was found unresponsive in his jail cell just before 6 am during one of the routine security checks.

Officers and medical staff rendered aid and preformed CPR but he was declared deceased just before 2 pm after being transported to St Mary's Hospital.

A cause of death is still pending toxicology reports.

Beagley had been arrested on December 14th for the November 9th death of a 9 year old girl. He was charged with first-degree murder, reckless manslaughter, attempted sex assault and child abuse resulting in the death.  Additional charges were evidently forthcoming after child pornography was recovered from his electronic devices.  At the time of his death, he had not entered a plea for any of the charges.

The day before an emergency call was placed for a unresponsive child, Beagley had received delivery of a bottle of chloroform.

Investigators determined that he had used the chloroform in an attempt to sexually abuse the child in a shed where a tarp had been set up as a privacy tent with pillows, blankets, a computer, sex toys, and the bottle of chloroform.

The girl's manner of death was determined to be chloroform poisoning.

The investigation into Beagley's death is ongoing.
