Lubbock, Texas: Lubbock Police began investigating a report of ongoing sexual abuse of a minor on Monday, May 30 at approximately 11:25 in the morning. Before the end of the following day, police announced that the remains of a baby had been recovered from a backyard and the suspect was found dead.
The Lubbock Police Department posted on Facebook about the investigation, giving just the most basic facts of the investigation. No names have been released at this time, nor the suspected age or cause of death for the baby.
According to the police department's statement, following the report of ongoing sexual assault which had been going on for about five years, police learned that a baby had been buried in the backyard of a residence. Police began searching the backyard and by 9:00 am Tuesday morning, recovered the remains according to KCBD.
An arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect in the case on a charge of aggravated sexual assault, and police spent the day searching for him.
While still seeking him, police were called to assist EMS at a home across town, approximately ten miles from where the body of the baby had been located.
Inside that home, the suspect was found deceased from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No other information has been released at this time. Everything Lubbock reached out to police for more information and promised updates once more information was available.
The investigation remains ongoing.
