Lancaster, California: The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department issued an advisory statement on Wednesday, September 29 announcing that charges had been filed against 44-year-old Natalie Brothwell in connection to the deaths of two children last year.
The day before the statement was issued officers in Tucson, Arizona arrested Brothwell at her residence and booked her into the Pima County Jail to await extradition back to California.
Brothwell has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of child endangerment.
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation into the deaths of 13-year-old Malaka Taylor and her 12-year-old brother Maurice Taylor Jr.
Their bodies were discovered on December 4 when Los Angeles County Fire personnel responded to a call reporting a potential gas leak in a Lancaster residence.
It is believed that the two children were fatally stabbed on about November 27, 2020 with their bodies being kept in the home and shown to their younger siblings, both under the age of 10.
Maurice Taylor Sr, 35, remains in custody in lieu of $4.2 million bail.
The investigation is still ongoing.
Investigators are again asking that anyone with information on the case contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may do so by contacting Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
