Kuldeep Nagar, Panipat, India: On Monday, October 24, during Diwali festivities, a 7-year-old girl left home to purchase firecrackers from a nearby store at approximately 9:00 pm.
She did not return home.
When it became clear that she had been gone longer than she should have been, her parents began searching for her.
According to the Hindustan Times her half-naked body was found Tuesday from a deserted location near a cremation site.
Due to injuries sustained by the child, investigators have not ruled out the possibility of sexual assault. A post-mortem examination is being conducted to determine her cause and manner of death.
At this time, investigators are offering a cash reward of ₹50,000 (approximately $607 USD) for information leading to an arrest.
The girl has been identified only as the eldest daughter of a migrant worker originally from Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh.
