I began a book study of 2 Kings this morning and was fascinated by the reference to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, which bore a striking linguistic resemblance to Beezelbub—the demon that the Pharisees accuse Jesus of being in cahoots with in order to have the power to cast out demons. And indeed, the Baal-zebub of 2 Kings is one in the same as the Beezlebub mentioned in Matthew.
Ekron was one of the five cities counted among the Philistine Pentapolis. Their chief god, written Ba’al Zəbûb, (pronounced “Ba’al Zvuv”), referring to a deity worshipped by the Philistines. The title Ba’al meaning, “Lord” in Ugaritic.
Interestingly, Beezlebub—thought to be synonymous by many evangelicals as Lucifer or “Satan” is, according to the “Testament of Solomon,” “…the prince of the demons associated with the star Hesperus, which is the Greek name for the planet Venus (aka Aphrodite) or the evening star.”
Before we get any deeper into the discussion—let’s clear up a potential identity crisis. In ancient times, deities were worshipped in many places, by many cultures. Many countries would worship the same deities or iterations of the same deity; but the deity went by various names depending upon the people group, their geography, language, etc. (Take Jesus for example: Americans say “Gee-Zuss” and Mexicans say “Hey-Soos”—same guy, different pronunciation).
In Jeremiah 7:18 we read, “The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough to make cakes for the queen of heaven.”
To simplify things a bit, the “Queen of Heaven” was known as:
Innana to those in Sumer
Aphrodite to those in Greece
Venus to those in Rome,
Mithra to those in Iran
Ishtar to the Akkadians
Sauska to the Hittites
Mylitta to those in Assyria
Alitta to those in Arabia,
Astarte to the Phoenicians
Ostara to the Old High Germans
Eostre to the Anglo-Saxons
Easter in the Old English, and finally
Baal-zebub to those in Ekron
But wait a minute. These were all female goddesses—surely Beezlebub is a dude, right? To reconcile this seeming conundrum, I found Volume 1 of Godfrey Higgins’ book, Anacalypsis. Within its pages, Higgins writes:
“It seems not unlikely that by the different modes of writing the word -l al, a distinction of sexes should have originally been intended to be expressed. The Heathen divinities, Ashtaroth and Baal-zebub, were both called Aleim. And the Venus Aphrodite, Urania, &c., were of both genders. The god Mithra, the Savior, was both male and female.”
Aleim is a translation of the Hebrew word elohim from the female eloah goddess + im (masculine plural ending). In other words: a female deity linguistically codified with a masculine suffix. Hmm, it looks like the Greeks should be calling this goddess Hermaphrodite.
Here Comes the Sun
How you have fallen from heaven,
Isaiah 14:12
morning star, son of the dawn!
Isaiah 14:12 poses yet another problem with Beezlebub being linked to the Roman iteration of the goddess Venus. The planet Venus is also known as the Morning Star. And some translations (such as the “infallible” KJV) substitutes “Morning Star” in this passage with “Lucifer”—who is most certainly a male deity, is he not? (More on that in a moment).
The second “problem” is Isaiah calls this star a “son,” not a daughter. The Hebrew word used for “son” in Isaiah 14:12 (Hebrew Strong’s 1121, ben) is unquestionably a male pronoun. So, if Venus is indeed synonymous with Beezlebub, the Scriptures clearly portrays the Morning Star—and subsequently, Venus—as male.
Or does it….
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
King James Version
“How you have fallen from heaven, O star of the morning, son of the dawn! You have been cut down to the earth, You who have weakened the nations!
New American Standard Version
“How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low!
English Standard Version
I don’t want to get sidetracked here, but Lucifer is not a Hebrew word. The translators of the King James Version brought this Latin word over from the Latin Vulgate. The word lucifer (uncapitalized) means: “the morning star” “the planet Venus” or “light bringing.” The word is not, and never was intended to be, a proper noun or a first name.
(1) Morning Star, (2) Star of the Morning, (3) Evening Star, and (4) Day Star (as used by the ESV) can ALL mean, “the planet Venus.” However, daystar has not always held that meaning. The meaning changed after the 12th century to refer to, as we understand it today, the planet Venus. But before that (and certainly at the time of the writing of the book of Isaiah) daystar meant…the SUN!
Taken from the Mirriam-Webster online dictionary:
daystar
Noun. day·star | \ ˈdā-ˌstär
Definition of daystar
1 : morning star
2 : sun (sense 1a)
First Known Use of daystar: before the 12th century, in the meaning defined as “sense 1a.”
This would actually make a lot more sense considering the god of this earth (and those that follow him) have had a multi-millennial-long fixation on the sun gods and sun worship. It also makes sense considering the sun is a star and the planet Venus is not.
But wait—the star referenced in Isaiah fell from the heavens, and the sun is still there! (So, is Venus, by the way). Well, here is where it gets potentially interesting. Michelle Starr (gotta love the irony of her last name!), writing for Science Alert.com, wrote an online article in November 2018. Within that article, she writes:
“It’s thought that somewhere out there, the Sun has a twin – born not just in the same stellar nursery, but an almost identical twin, a binary companion made of the same star-stuff. And astronomers think they might have just found it.
Located roughly 184 light-years away, it’s called HD 186302, and it’s almost certainly at least a long-lost sibling of our home star.
Most stars are born in groups that can number in the thousands, in what are known as stellar nurseries – tremendously vast clouds of gas and dust, pushed into clumps that gradually collapse under their own weight, forming the very first stages of stars. The Sun’s life is thought to have started this way, 4.57 billion years ago.
Eventually, the stars get flung out on their own into the galaxy – but most of them have at least one other companion. It’s estimated up to 85 percent of all stars could be in binary pairs, or even triple or quadruple systems; and over 50 percent of all Sun-like stars are in binary pairs.
Our Sun is a solitary star, all on its ownsome, which makes it something of an oddball. But there’s evidence to suggest that it did have a binary twin, once upon a time. Recent research suggests that most, if not all, stars are born with a binary twin.”
Wow. Look at that! Starr writes, “Eventually, the stars get flung out…into the galaxy” Hmmm. Could it be that statement is just science speak for, “How you are fallen from heaven, O day star, star of the morning”? And if Isaiah 14:12 is talking about the sun (or “a” sun), not Venus, then Venus (aka Beezelbub—the hermaphrodite), has NOT fallen—meaning she still holds the rank of Queen of Heaven to this day.
As Above, So Below
In Heaven, God Almighty, Yahweh, the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, reigns supreme over the universe. Yahweh also has a Spirit—a Spirit that he sends down upon the earth. A Spirit that can guide and comfort Believers. Those who have a genuine anointing of the Spirit of Yahweh possess gifts that enable them to preach, teach, cast out demons, heal the sick, speak in tongues, raise the dead, and perform miracles.
We are hearing a lot these days about a false holy spirit. Also referred to as the Kundalini spirit, or the female holy spirit. Could it be that this anti-spirit—a mockery of the True Spirit of Yahweh, is a female spirit because the “god” that it represents is, likewise, female?
A Challenge
Church, I am issuing a challenge. What might possibly happen to the forces of darkness and their plans for evil upon mankind if we started asking YAHWEH—the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to bind Beezlebub and her spirit here on Earth, in the name of Jesus/Yeshua the Messiah?
It is abundantly clear that the whole world is currently under a spell. A spell that CAN be broken if the body of Believers unite in prayer and fasting. But we will lack power if we continue to cry out to an unnamed “God” or an unnamed “LORD” (which, as we read earlier, is merely the Ugaritic word for Ba’al). We will also lack power if we demand that this nameless “God” bind up an unnamed enemy—a satan (which simply translates “adversary”) or a lucifer (which simply translates daystar or sun).
This is spiritual warfare—our words matter. Our prayers are empty and lacking in power when we pray to no one in particular, to bind no one in particular. Our prayers are mere Mad Libs with all the blanks left blank.
Secondly, we need to ask the Spirit of YAHWEH to reveal to us as a Church, and as a nation, the various ways in which we have bowed the knee to Beezelbub. Have we taken part in Aphrodite/Ishtar worship? And has this worship made our nation vulnerable to spiritual deception and attack? (To him who has ears, let him click here.) If so, we must pray that these areas of pagan worship and religious synchronization that we have let into our homes and churches be REVEALED to us, and that we repent, and TURN AWAY from those practices—no matter how near and dear to our hearts and church traditions they may be!
We have the names—it is time we start using them!
The name of YAHWEH and His Son Jesus/Yeshua, have POWER over the adversary—Beezlebub, Queen of Heaven. Bind her in prayer—cast her down!
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through YAHWEH to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of YAHWEH, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of YESHUA;And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NASB
