Pottsville, Arkansas: On Thursday, January 19, 2023, the Pope County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of Meredith "Lindsey" Hill on charges of sexual assault in the first degree with a minor.
Hill had been employed by the Pottsville School District as a science teacher and head coach of both the varsity tennis and softball teams.
On Friday, she appeared before Circuit Judge James Dunham via Zoom for her bond hearing. She has since been released from custody.
Superintendent of the Pottsville School District, Larry Duggar issued a statement concerning the arrest that was posted to the district's website.
"Pottsville School District has been made aware of an allegation involving a student and staff member. We are cooperating with law enforcement's investigation into the matter and have taken all appropriate and lawful actions to assure the safety of students, which is the District's top priority at all times. Due to confidentiality considerations for students and staff under applicable law, the District will have no further comment at this time."
At this time, Hill no longer appears on the middle school staff directory.
Sheriff Shane Jones stated that the investigation was active and ongoing at the time of her arrest.
During a Pottsville School District meeting hours after Hill was arrested, a parent took the opportunity to address the district concerning their response to the matter.
The unnamed parent of a now 9th grade student who was in Hill's class in the 7th grade said, "There's been accusations going on for over a year that my child is aware of, and nobody has done anything."
"If the administration knew something about this before and didn't do anything, I think there needs to be some firings here," another parent stated.
Hill's arrest had not been on the meeting agenda.
