The community of New Carlisle, made up of less than 2,000 people, was rocked over this weekend after a 6-year-old girl that had been reported as missing was found dead and a 14-year-old was taken into custody.

6:30 pm Friday evening 6-year-old Grace Ross was reported missing in the area of Chapman Drive. Approximately two hours later, her body was found in a wooded area not far from that location.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit announced in a press release that an autopsy had been scheduled for Sunday.

The St. Joseph County prosecutor's office also stated in a press release Saturday that a 14-year-old was in custody in connection to her death and that he was not being named as he is "progressing through the juvenile system." The charges against him have not been released.

The investigation is still active and officers with the County Metro Homicide Unit are asking that anyone with information on the case contact them at (574) 235-5009.

On Sunday, more than 200 people came together to hold a vigil to remember Grace.

A fundraiser has been set up on Facebook to help the family with funeral expenses.
