MMA fighter indicted on federal child pornography charges

Travis "Ironman" Fulton, 43, was indicted on federal charges Wednesday, which were unsealed in court during an appearance on Friday, February 19 at the U.S. District Court in Cedar Rapids according to the Waterloo-Cedar Rapids Courier.

The indictment includes charges of sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography and receipt of child pornography. If convicted on all charges, Fulton faces the possibility of 70 years in prison Tony Morfitt, a spokesperson for Sean R. Berry, the acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa stated.

Citing the indictment, ESPN stated that Fulton was found to have allegedly attempted to get a child to "engage in sexually explicit conduct" in order to gain "visual depiction" of the acts.

He was additionally accused of possessing a USB drive with images of a child under the age of 12 and to have attempted to gain further child pornography through "interstate and foreign commerce."

At the time these new charges were filed against him, Fulton was awaiting trial on domestic assault charges related to an incident in September 2019.  He stands accused of hitting a woman in the head several times and threatening to kill her if she spoke to police.

The woman sustained injuries to her jaw, nose and palate and received treatment at the University of Iowa Hospital according to The Courier. Since then, Fulton and the woman were seen in public together as recently as January 28 which resulted in both being detained for a time as it was a violation of the restraining order.

Fulton remains in custody in the Linn County Detention Center with a hold for the United States Marshal Service.

ESPN states that Fulton holds the record for professional MMA fights with 320.  He began fighting in 1996 and his last fight was in April 2019.
